About Me
Chun-Yi Chang is a fourth-year PhD student in the Department Statistics and Probability at Michigan State University. She is advised by Dr. Chih-Li Sung. Her research interests include surrogate modeling, uncertainty quantification, and computer simultation, with a particular focus on deep Gaussian processes and machine learning.
She received her M.S. in Applied Statistics from Michigan State University and her B.B.A in Statistics from National Taipei Univeristy.
Outside of research, she enjoys playing volleyball, watching dramas and traveling.

- May 2026 - I am honored to be selected for the IMSI Summer Internship Program, which begins with a two-week data science boot camp. Following this, I will join Dr. Wendy Yang’s Lab to study controls on soil greenhouse gas emissions and nutrient cycling using statistical learning methods this Summer.
- May 2026 - I am honored to receive the NISS New Researcher Award and to present our recent work Efficient Deep Gaussian Process Surrogates via Mini-Batch Latent MAP Estimation at the 2026 ASA/IMS Spring Research Conference
- May 2026 - I gratefully acknowledge the support of the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University for awarding me the Dissertation Completion Fellowship, which supports the completion of my doctoral research.
- April 2026 - Our paper Deep Intrinsic Coregionalization Multi-Output Gaussian Process Surrogate with Active Learning has been accepted for publication in International Journal for Uncertainty Quantification. I am grateful to my advisor Dr. Chih-Li Sung for his guidance and support!
